I did my formal arts training in my home town of London, Ontario where I focused mainly on ceramic work with printmaking and painting on the side.
Moving west 20 odd years ago I spent my time happily working as a potter on Vancouver Island before unexpected events took me to the city of Vancouver for a time. There I rediscovered the pleasure of working in two dimensions and the enchantment of encaustic painting.
I love everything about wax - its sweet smell, immediacy of application and the gorgeous luminosity of colour. It offers a vast range of possibilities that I have only just begun to explore.
Because I believe in the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle in art as well as all other aspects of life many of my works incorporate a large percentage of reclaimed or repurposed materials. Celebrate the perfectly imperfect!
Now living and working on beautiful Gabriola Island my current project involves books - 100 seems like a reasonable goal whether you are reading them, painting them or some combination of the two. See "novel concepts" for new postings as I make my way through this ever evolving series.
